Video by The Sisters Elefterin. Music by Faintlife. @the_sisters_elefterin @ faintlifemusic “The Skin” sensorially explores the largest organ in our bodies through filmic, photographic, sculptural, and performative experiments. From its emotional capabilities to its biological properties, skin is unique in its ability to not only sustain and contain life but also in its ability to poetically convey humanity and the complexities of our existences. The subject matter was abstractly examined through a range of mediums that include silicone, foam, gelatin, latex, mylar, chiffon, silk, spandex, salt, and ocean water. Formally, the film addresses the enigmatic relationship between the visual and the tactile world. Through attempting to visualize these intangible relationships, the split screen dances between what we know and what we feel.

The Sisters Elefterin are Ari and Zoe . Their work is centered around their mutual interest of exploring the evolution and politics of the human body. While their practice is performative in nature, it often pulls from their training in photography, dance, theatre, advertising, and industrial design. Their work is both physically and conceptually layered; sometimes in the form of thousands of pieces of printed images covering a space, or as an analysis of the nuanced, emotional qualities of skin.
